Days 1–14: get the foundations right
- Set up Google Search Console and verify your domain. This is how you see what Google sees.
- Submit your sitemap (usually
/sitemap.xml) and check it reads with "Success". - Pick one version of your site. Redirect
http://andwww.to a singlehttps://address so Google doesn't index duplicates. - Check robots.txt isn't blocking your pages.
- Install Google Analytics 4 so you can see what visitors do.
- Test speed and mobile with PageSpeed Insights. Compress large images first — it's the most common slowdown.
Days 15–45: build pages that match real searches
Keyword research. List the services you sell and the phrases customers actually type — including location ("near me", city names) and questions. Prioritise phrases with clear buying intent.
One page per service. A single "Services" page can't rank for everything. Give each main service its own page with a clear title, a unique description, real detail, FAQs and a call to action.
On-page basics for every page:
- A unique title tag and meta description
- One clear H1, with logical H2 sections
- Descriptive image alt text
- Internal links between related pages
- Structured data (schema) for your organisation, FAQs and articles
Days 30–60: local SEO and trust
If you serve customers in a specific area, your Google Business Profile can bring results faster than your website. Complete every field, choose the right categories, add real photos, post updates and ask happy customers for reviews.
Make sure your business name, address and phone number are identical everywhere — website, Google, social profiles and directories.
Days 45–90: content and links
Publish helpful articles that answer the questions your customers ask before they buy — comparisons, costs, how-tos and checklists. One or two genuinely useful posts a month beats ten thin ones.
Earn a few quality backlinks. Start with partners, clients, suppliers, local associations, industry directories and guest articles. A handful of relevant links is worth far more than hundreds of spammy ones.
Request indexing for new pages through Search Console's URL Inspection tool.
How to tell it's working
In the first 90 days, look at impressions in Search Console before clicks. Rising impressions mean Google is starting to show your pages for more searches. Clicks and enquiries follow as positions improve. Most new sites need several months to build real momentum, so judge progress by direction, not day-to-day numbers.

Frequently asked questions
How long does SEO take for a new website?
Most new websites start seeing meaningful impressions within a few months, and stronger rankings over six to twelve months, depending on competition and how much quality content and links they build.
Do I need a blog for SEO?
Not always, but helpful articles give Google more searches to show you for and give customers reasons to trust you. Service pages come first; a blog builds on them.
Why are some of my pages 'not indexed' in Search Console?
For a new site this is common. Google discovers pages gradually. Make sure they're in your sitemap, linked from other pages and useful, then request indexing.
